The NAB AFL U16 Championships were completed in Queensland today, with final round defeats to both Vic Metro and Vic Country.
Metro went painstakingly close to completing the U18 / U16 double, but fell one-point short of WA in the battle for the title. Despite a four goal to two final term, and taking the lead at various stages of the final quarter, Metro was unable to score in the dying minutes. Anderson (Oakleigh Chargers) was unstoppable for Metro with 28 disposals winning the Metro MVP and Kevin Sheehan Medal for Player of the Championships, Emerson Jeka (Western Jets) had 20 disposals plus 3 goals while Jamieson Rossiter (Eastern Ranges) kicked 3 goals with his 16 disposals and 8 marks.
Vic Country led by five points at half time against SA, but were overrun in the second half to lose by 28 points. Izaac Grant (GWV Rebels) was the major goalkicker with 3, followed by Caleb Serong (Gippsland Power) with 23 disposals and 2 goals along with Power teammate Sam Flanders (Gippsland Power) 17 disposals 2 goals. Dandenong Stingrays Hayden Young was named the Country MVP.
